Cause: Potential for listeria contamination

What was recalled: Many different lot numbers of various Texas Tripe raw pet food products listed here.
Texas Tripe, Inc., which is based in Detroit, Texas, has been producing raw pet foods for about 10 years now. The company says, “We strive to make quality products at affordable prices.”
First, on Aug. 3, Texas Tripe announced a recall of more than 2 dozen lots of its products. Then, nearly 2 weeks later, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provided an updated chart that was vastly expanded, containing many more lots of Texas Tripe products that the agency says consumers should avoid feeding. The recalled meats and blends include both dog and cat food formulas:
- All-Star Bully Blend
- Beef Blend
- Beef Tripe & Ground Rabbit
- Boneless Chicken Blend
- Chicken Blend Green Tripe
- Chicken Pork Salmon With Egg
- Chicken Tripe Complete
- Ground Chicken With Bone
- Duck-Rabbit
- Goat Tripe Complete
- Phat Katz
- Senior Pro
- Shepherd Blend
- Turkey Pork Blend
- Ground Turkey Necks
- Wolf Run
According to the company, the affected products were shipped directly to consumers between May 28 and July 1, 2019, in 34 states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, N Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, S. Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The original recall announcement said these products could be contaminated with listeria, “an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.”
To date, no human or animal illnesses have been reported, according to the company.
