The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on March 26, 2019, issued a letter cautioning consumers not to feed 3 specific lots of Natural Selections dog food made by Arrow Reliance Inc., doing business as Darwin’s Natural Pet Products.
The lots are:
- Natural Selections Chicken Recipe With Organic Vegetables: 5309(11)181019, manufactured on Oct. 19, 2018
- Natural Selections Chicken Recipe With Organic Vegetables: 5375(11)181106, manufactured on Nov. 6, 2018
- Natural Selections Turkey Recipe With Organic Vegetables: 5339(11)181026, manufactured on Oct. 26, 2018
The FDA says these dog foods may contain salmonella, a pathogen that is dangerous to both pets and humans.
Darwin’s says it alerted consumers of the recall via email weeks ago, but the FDA says that wasn’t enough: It wants full public disclosure of the recall.
“These products are sold and stored frozen, and the FDA is concerned that people may still have them in their possession,” the agency said in the caution letter.
The letter adds: “[Darwin’s] has not issued a public notification, and the FDA is not confident that the firm’s customer notifications are effective for this ongoing recall.”
