Cause: Potential for salmonella and listeria

What was recalled:Â 2 lb. frozen packages of Columbia River Natural Pet Foods with any of the following lot numbers:
- Cow Pie, Lot #81917 (produced on Aug. 19, 2017)
- Cow Pie, Lot #72618 (produced in July and November 2018)
- Chicken & Vegetables, Lot #111518 (produced in July and November 2018)
The 2 recalled products by Columbia River Natural Pet Foods — Cow Pie and Chicken & Vegetables — are “fresh frozen meat products intended to feed raw to dogs and cats,” according to the recall announcements, which added that the products were distributed in Alaska, Oregon and Washington through retail stores and direct delivery.
The Cow Pie packages are purple and white and tube-shaped (“chubs”), and the Chicken & Vegetables packages are blue and white. On both products the lot code is printed on an orange sticker on the back.
Routine testing by the Washington State Department of Agriculture found the potential for contamination. No pet illnesses have been reported to date.
Columbia River Natural Pet Foods, based in Vancouver, Washington, is a small pet food company that doesn’t even appear to have a working website anymore. One of the company’s last Facebook posts, about 2 years ago, says,
“Our apologies!! Our Website is currently down due to the loss of our website guru … and me being a dog person not a computer person. I assure you Columbia River Natural Pet Foods and Boulder Creek Kennels is still going strong and I will have the website up and back online soon.”
Customers who have purchased any bags of Cow Pie or Chicken & Vegetables pet food with the lot codes above should stop feeding them and return the products to the retailer for a refund.
