Cause:Â Potential for contamination with listeria in products containing green beans

What was recalled:Â Only these specific refrigerated/frozen JustFoodForDogs products, all sizes:
- Turducken, batch dates of Nov. 1, 2017 through Jan. 14, 2018
- Beef and Russet Potato, batch dates of Nov. 1, 2017 through Jan. 14, 2018 (new packages will be made that contain no green beans and are safe to feed)
- Fish and Sweet Potato, batch dates of Nov. 1, 2017 through Jan. 14, 2018 (new packages will be made that contain no green beans and are safe to feed)
According to a company letter signed by JustFoodForDogs founder Shawn Buckley, the events surrounding the recall were set off when a customer reported a problem.
She “reported that our Turducken special made her dogs sick with vomiting and diarrhea,” Buckley wrote. “After the returned food confirmed positive for Listeria monocytogenes, we informed our Turducken customers about the only recall in the history of our company.”
An investigation discovered that the likely cause of the listeria was human-grade green beans from a third-party supplier, so the company expanded the recall to include all 3 recipes that contain green beans: Turducken, Beef and Russet Potato, and Fish and Sweet Potato.
Buckley noted that his company is also “notifying the FDA as this likely affects a broader human food supply of green beans.”
All other JustFoodForDogs recipes are safe, according to Buckley, who noted, “We will be implementing greater controls to prevent this from happening in the future.”
