Nestlé Purina PetCare has voluntarily recalled a limited amount of Purina Pro Plan Complete Essentials Tuna Entrée in Sauce Wet Cat Food in 3 oz. cans.

Maker: Nestlé Purina PetCare
Cause: Could potentially contain plastic pieces
Announcement: Company statement dated July 14, 2021 (archived here)
What was recalled: Purina Pro Plan Complete Essentials Tuna Entrée in Sauce Wet Cat Food, UPC #38100-11197 — only 3 oz. cans with Lot Production Code #11621160 and best by date of June 2023

Nestlé Purina PetCare says some of these cat food cans in the single production lot listed above may contain pieces of plastic.

The cans “could potentially contain black flexible plastic pieces, which could pose a choking hazard if swallowed,” according to the recall announcement.

Nestlé Purina explained that the issue came to light after customers reported seeing plastic in the food, but the recall announcement did not specify if any cats were reported to be injured or sickened. “To prevent injury or illness, we recommend consumers discard the product and we will replace it,” the company said.

Nestlé Purina added that it has “made changes to our process, so this should not happen in the future.”

The affected cat food was distributed nationwide in specialty stores and through online sales. No other Purina products are part of this limited recall.
