What was recalled: 50 lb. bags of Retriever All Life Stages Mini Chunk Chicken Recipe Dry Dog Food with best by dates of either “10 2024 3277 TFP” or “10 2024 3278 TFP”

TFP Nutrition has issued a voluntary recall of certain 50-pound bags of its Retriever All Life Stages Mini Chunk Chicken Recipe Dry Dog Food due to potential salmonella contamination.

The recalled product was manufactured on October 4–5, 2023, and was distributed in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah. The dog food is sold only at Tractor Supply Company stores.

The affected product can be identified with “3277 TFP” or “3278 TFP” on the second line of the date code.

According to the recall announcement, no dog or human illness has been reported to date. All recalled product has been removed from store shelves, and no other Tractor Supply products are affected.

“We conducted a thorough internal investigation of all systems and processes and have taken corrective action, the company says. “We are also working with state and federal officials to make sure consumers have all the latest information pertaining to this situation.”

Salmonella Dangers

Salmonella can pose serious health risks to both pets consuming the product and humans handling the contaminated dog food.

Signs of salmonella infection in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. In more severe cases, it can lead to arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.

Dogs infected with salmonella may exhibit lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Other dogs may only show decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Contact your veterinarian if your pet has consumed this product and is showing any of the symptoms mentioned above.

Customer Complaints

Research by Petful reveals ongoing customer concerns regarding this product. Recent customer reviews on the Tractor Supply website have mentioned issues with mold found in the dog food.

One pet parent, 2 months ago, reported that the food “gave all 8 of my dogs bloody and black stool, and caused bloody vomiting.” Another customer mentioned a few months ago, “I have 3 dogs, and this tore their stomachs up.”
