What was recalled: Freshpet Select Small Dog Bite Size Beef & Egg Recipe Dog Food, 1 lb., UPC # 627975012939, with sell by date of Oct. 30, 2021 and Lot Code 1421FBP0101
Only the dog food listed above — with the exact UPC, sell by date and lot code — is part of this recall, and no other Freshpet products are affected.
The dog food had been “targeted for destruction” by Freshpet because of potential salmonella contamination, but instead it inadvertently was sent to a limited number of Publix stores in Florida, South Carolina and Georgia, and to a few Target stores in Arizona and California, between June 7 and June 10, 2021.
“Most of the product was intercepted at retailer distribution warehouses and not delivered to retail stores,” the company said in its recall announcement.
No illnesses have been reported to date, according to Freshpet. If you have this specific product, dispose of it and contact the company for a refund at 1-866-789-3737.
